Spring Maintenance
Wake your car up after a long winter
Winter takes its toll on all of us – short days, cold nights and wet weather mean we have to take extra precautions every time we leave the house. Our cars are no different – the winter weather and poor road conditions force us to make alterations to our cars and how we look after them. We often don’t think to revert and change these alterations once spring arrives.
The change in temperature and improved driving conditions of spring are the perfect time to take stock and have a complete check of your vehicle before heading into summer months of road trips and family days out.
Some quick tips for cruising into spring:
See clearly now
Replace damaged windscreen wipers. Winter months and cold weather mean we are often wiping away more than just water. This can lead to worn and damaged wipers. Replacing the wiper blades will make the world of difference during those heavy spring showers! Not sure if your wipers are past their sell-by date. Call into Atlas and our of our trained technicians will take a look and advise you.
Prevent a crackin’ crisis
by having your windscreen filled/repaired before minor cracks become major ones. Over the winter months, particularly in big cities with busy roads, gravel, salt and sand are used to treat ice. While we are very grateful for this on frosty winter mornings often our windscreen takes the brunt of it. Splashes of gritty material can cause holes and cracks in the windscreen that will only worsen if left untreated.
Don’t pop under pressure
Take notice of your tyre pressure and preventing any issues. During the cold weather the air compresses and the tyre pressure reduces on a regular basis meaning you need to fill your tyres more often. When spring arrives and air temperatures begin to rise the air expands and can result in the tyre pressure being too much for safe driving. This can severely reduce the cars’ fuel economy and lead to difficult driving conditions. Need help to check your tyres, drop into your local Atlas Autoservice and they will carry out a free tyre inspection. Click here to see where we are located.
Sparkle your way into Spring
Give the interior and exterior of your car a deep clean. The dirt and salt build up that occurs over the winter months clogs up the bottom of the car and can be difficult to remove. The best way to banish the grime is by using a power hose to clean the underneath of the exterior. These are available in most major garages and fuel stations.
It’s important after the long winter months to breathe new life back into your vehicle. A build-up of dust, dirt and ice can lead to wear and tear and long term damage if not treated on a regular basis. Taking good care of your car and adjusting to the seasons as they come is a sure way to prolong the life of your vehicle.
